More support workers win pay equity

Almost 1700 vocational and disability support workers will be added from early August to the historic Pay Equity settlement deal, says their union leaders.

The Public Service Association and E tū announced today that the Government has approved $55.8 million in funding over five years to include the about 1,700 vocational and disability workers that are funded by the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and Oranga Tamariki.

The union spokespeople said the inclusion of the vocational disability workers was another “big step” in sorting out gender-based discrimination but there was still work to do with the “next cab off the rank” being the mental health support workers claim.
